Eric Hagan and I made a piece for the Dorothy Strelsin Memorial Community Garden on Suffolk Street on the Lower East Side.
The “trellis topper”, or weathervane, was built from painted laser cut basswood, metal bearings, shaft collars, rod and other hardware on a wooden bass. We cut vinyl coated canvas flags and attached them to the trellises. We made garden creatures, laser cut painted basswood, which were scattered throughout the garden.
The piece was popular with the members of the garden community, who gave us the funds to rebuild the trellis topper in sturdier materials, 1/4″ plywood. It is currently in the garden.
