Drawings from The Host
I like to draw with Procreate on my iPad. I often do sketches and notes, and occasionally drawings from movies and tv shows I like.
The Host- great movie I saw about 15 years after it came out! A few drawings.
Check out 1975apropheticdrama.org, the website Kate Culkin and I made for this play written by Harriet Hosmer in 1875, set in 1975. I created the animation, which is cut into short segments and embedded throughout the text of the play. Kate has annotated the text as well as provided context, a bibliography and other resources on Harriet and on women writing speculative and science fiction in the 19th century.
Here’s a couple of short clips. Merciful Powers! describes how the leaders of Turkey and Russia destroyed that part of the world. In Detained Electric Forces, we learn how electricity works on the brain.

Beyond the Cape!
I was in a show at the Boca Raton Museum of Art curated by Kathy Goncharov. The show was about comics and contemporary art. A nine minute version of 1975: A Prophetic Drama was exhibited. I curated some animations by early animators, Winsor McCay, the Fleischer Brothers and an animation of Krazy Kat, George Herriman’s classic comic.
I made a series of accordion books based on my drawings for the animations of the play “1975: A Prophetic Drama.” I also made a couple of video books that included clips of the animations. Here’s a few photos. I showed these at the MoCCA festival in 2019 at a table with Marianne Petit and Eric Hagan. I also showed one at a virtual A. More Store at James Fuentes in December of 2020.
I will be showing some book projects at the Independent Book Fair on September 21-23 in New York. I will be showing with Eric Hagan and Marianne Petit as the Forward-Backward Collective. Here’s a few images.

Drawings for 1975
Here’s a few drawings for the project I’m working on with Kate Culkin. These are mostly character designs. We’ve been plugging away at this for a while, will have some more time to work on it starting in January.
Eric and I gave a presentation about our book at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square during their Mini-Maker Faire. It was fun!
