Maker Faire, Brooklyn Book Festival, Peoples Climate March

This was a busy weekend, World Maker Faire on Saturday and Sunday, always wonderful. Sunday was the Brooklyn Book Festival, where Calvin was the MC for the Quick Draw Panel, where cartoonists draw whatever wacky suggestion kids in the audience come up with. Also, the Peoples Climate March, which was inspiring. And then back to the Rockaways.

A few pictures.

SPX 2014

SPX is a great con, wonderful indie comics, relatively easy to navigate. And everyone seems to be in a really good mood! I had only been once before, went this year and had a great time. Not a great place to take photos, but here are a few pictures anyway.

Video Documentation on Internet Archive

Becky Howland put this video documentation of artists during the installation of the Williamsburg Bridge Sculpture show from 1983 on the Internet Archive.

This link takes you to a much younger Jody Culkin taking about my piece, which was 2 lamps, attached to the street lamps on the bridge. I didn’t know yet if they were going to light up, they did. A link to the Public Art Fund page on the show.

Laser Cut Lamps 2014

This summer at ITP camp I made a few more lamps with laser cut parts, finishing up most of the ones that use fabric in the last few weeks. Here are a few pictures. One of the cut-up tee shirt lamps has buttons attached so you can “button up” the lamp various ways.

More ITP camp 2014

Camp is always great. This summer I learned a bit of python, worked with an Arduino Yun and Temboo- sending out different tweets with button pushes, set up a raspberry pi and made a stop motion animation, used the embroidery machine and cut up and etched a bunch of stuff with the laser cutter. Many great sessions on various topics, fun.

A few pictures of some of the stuff I did, some still in progress. More images soon as I finish things up.

Stop Motion Animation made with Raspberry Pi

I made a stop motion animation with my Raspberry Pi. It’s kind of dark, no audio and the timing is not perfect, but here is the rig I made it with. Yes, that little thing at the bottom of the photo is a computer, and that is the camera nailed to foam core. This is a “trailer” for an animation I am planning that uses texts from Freud’s Dream Analysis material and City of God by St. Augustine.

Campfire!

I helped fellow camper Kay Anar build a “campfire” last week at ITP summer camp. Here’s a photo comic that documents it. It was fun!campfire-doc
