Pockets

Something that has always driven me crazy is the lack of pockets in a lot of women’s clothing. I have made a few, to wrap around your neck, arm, waist, some with hoodies or little packs. I started these a few years back, finishing up some of the sewing and embroidery on them now. Here’s a few photos, there are lots more.

These are laser cut from old teeshirts or sweat shirts, sewn together by hand. I like to combine digital fabrication with handcraft.

Hoodies

Here are some hoodies I made, mostly out of laser cut old tee-shirts. I cut them a few years back, hand sewing and embroidering them over the last few years.

Accordion Books

I made a series of accordion books based on my drawings for the animations of the play “1975: A Prophetic Drama.” I also made a couple of video books that included clips of the animations. Here’s a few photos. I showed these at the MoCCA festival in 2019 at a table with Marianne Petit and Eric Hagan. I also showed one at a virtual A. More Store at James Fuentes in December of 2020.

Tunnel Books:1975

I made some tunnel books based on “1975: A Prophetic Drama”, a play by 19th century American sculptor Harriet Hosmer. I am working on this project with Kate Culkin, author of Harriet Hosmer: A Cultural Biography. This project eventually will be a series of animated webisodes and an online annotated version of the original text. I showed a couple of these at Maker Faire in 2016.

Also in this gallery, paper versions of the characters that I built.

Cardboard Handbag Theaters

I made a few cardboard theater handbags. Each was designed to hold a screen powered by a Raspberry Pi that would play a short animation. The sides for the theater were sometimes profiles of characters that appeared in the animation. A few images of the “handbags” in progress, most of them without animation.

Wax Paper Dress

Here are a few photos of a wax paper dress I made this summer. I cut the holes in the dress and all the pieces out with a vinyl cutter, and sewed them together by hand.
